Water Birch (Betula occidentalis)

Smaller birch, commonly occurs in clumps like a large shrub. Bark is thin, cherry red or bronze, and does not peel. Lends same winter effect as a red-twig dogwood. Flood tolerant, prefers rich moist soils and part shade.
