American Wild Plum (Prunus americana) is a native flowering shrub or small tree prized for its early spring blooms, edible fruit, and exceptional wildlife value. In early spring, clusters of showy white flowers appear before the leaves emerge, providing an important nectar source for pollinators.

By mid-summer, the flowers give way to peach-pink plums that are edible for people and highly attractive to birds and other wildlife. The fruit can be eaten fresh or used in jams and jellies.

American Wild Plum naturally forms dense, spreading thickets, making it an excellent choice for windbreaks, wildlife habitat plantings, erosion control, and naturalized landscapes. It prefers moist, well-drained soil but is adaptable to many soil types — from dry and sandy to clay and wet sites — making it a resilient choice for diverse landscapes

In fall, foliage turns yellow to red, adding seasonal interest before leaf drop.
