Coralberry (Symphoricarpos orbiculatus) is a tough, low-growing native shrub prized for its persistent purple-red berries and adaptability across a wide range of conditions. From summer through winter, its decorative fruit adds color and texture while providing an important food source for birds and wildlife.
This shrub features slender, arching branches and a naturally spreading habit, making it especially effective for bank stabilization, naturalized plantings, and informal hedges. In early summer (June–July), small yellow-white flowers flushed with rose appear on new growth, supporting pollinators before developing into the showy berries that define the plant.
Coralberry performs well in full sun to part shade and tolerates most soil types, including dry sites once established. Its blue-green foliage turns crimson in fall, extending seasonal interest beyond berry display.
