The Redbud (Cercis canadensis) is a beloved native understory tree known for its early spring flowers, graceful form, and four-season appeal. In early spring—often before most trees wake up—small pink flowers bloom directly along the branches and trunk, creating a striking display before leaves emerge.

After flowering, slender brown seed pods form and persist into fall, providing visual interest and food for wildlife. The deep green, heart-shaped leaves create a soft canopy through summer and turn a brilliant yellow in fall, adding warm seasonal color to the landscape.

Redbud performs well in full sun to part shade, making it an excellent choice for woodland edges, shaded lawns, and understory plantings. This selection has proven hardy and regionally adapted, grown from seed collected in Douglas County, Nebraska, ensuring strong performance in local conditions.
