Silver linden is a nonnative, environmentally adapted tree for the northern plain states. It grows best in dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils and has a great tolerance of drought and urban conditions. The leaves are a dark glossy green with silvery green on the bottom that is densely covered with hairs. In spring, fragrant pale yellow flowers appear that attract many pollinators. The flowers are followed by small nutlets that ripen in late summer.
