Blackjack oak is a small to medium size oak that grows best in dry to medium, well-drained soils. It is a tough tree that can grow in poor, dry soils. The leaves appear dark green and leathery that are hairy underneath and have small bristles on the tips of the edges of the leaf. Fall color consists of yellowish brown to russet. Acorns are a great source of food for wildlife and the tree is great for bird habitat. Full sun. Seed source collected in Kansas.
