Bright green leaves are toothed, round to ovate, 3 to 5 lobed, to 3 inches in length, turning purplish-red in fall. The unusual yellow, clove-scented, tubular flowers are held in pendent racemes, 2 inches in length. Flowers appear in spring and are long lasting. The fruit is large, black, sweet-tart, and can be used for jam or jelly. Along with excellent fall color, makes this a plant with three seasons of garden beauty. Thrives in all but dry sand or wet clay soils. Prune, if needed, early summer. * 2004 GreatPlants Winner
**Plants in the genus Ribes are an alternate host for white pine blister rust (Cronartium ribicola), a serious forest pathogen that severely impacts eastern white pine trees. Therefore, as according to the Department of Agriculture, we will not ship Ribes spp. into Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Virginia.
