Low Scape Hedger® Chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa ‘UCONNAM166’ PP28831)
Low Scape Hedger Chokeberry is a versatile and columnar native shrub that can grow in almost any condition – full sun or part shade, hot or cold environments, wet or dry soils, and urban conditions. It’s a perfect shrub for hedging or screening. It can easily be pruned into a formal hedge or it can be left in its natural form. This non-suckering variety is lower maintenance and is a faster producer than Viking Black Chokeberry. Huge numbers of white flowers appear in the spring that is followed by dark purple berries in the summer. The dark, glossy green leaves turn to bright reds and oranges in the fall.
Low Scape Hedger Chokeberry is a variety of Black Chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa) developed by Dr. Mark Brand and Dr. Bryan Connolly of the University of Connecticut.
