The White Oak (Quercus alba) is known for its strength, longevity, and ecological importance. With a broad crown reaching 50–80 feet tall and wide, this species needs room to mature but rewards the landscape with graceful form, cooling shade, and habitat for countless species.

White Oak thrives in rich, moist, well-drained soils, yet adapts to a variety of conditions, including drought and the presence of juglone—making it suitable near Black Walnut trees, where many species cannot grow. In spring, it produces yellow-green flowers, followed by oval acorns (¾” long) with warty, scaled cups that are highly favored by birds, squirrels, and deer.

As one of the most prized hardwood timber trees, its wood is used in furniture, flooring, barrels, and specialty products.
