American Beech (Fagus grandifolia)
The American Beech is a large tree with a dense, oval crown and smooth grey bark. The foliage is ovate to elliptic and have coarse, widely-spaced marginal teeth and prominent parallel veins. Flowers bloom in April-May. Beechnuts ripen in fall and are edible. Prefers rich, moist, well-drained soils. Full sun to part shade.
